Do you know the Wisdom of “Self-Knowledge”? - 2
Continuation to my
previous post… where Arjuna was in despair and a series of questions were asked
to his Guru, Lord Krishna.
Lord Krishna
understood that Arjuna has stepped out of the right track following the series
of his questions in the middle of the battlefield and decides to use a three-pointed
è Philosophical, Ethical, and Practical approach which
is the best suited for the situation to bring back Arjuna to the right track
for performing his duty.
Arjuna was immersed
in the emotional turmoil of attachment, grief, and delusion, and the only
solution to come out of it is to know the real “him”. This is called the
knowledge of “Self”.
Lord Krishna has
given the most wonderful teachings to the entire world through Arjuna, how to
handle the worst situations that we come across in our day-to-day life. The
emotional imbalance that Arjuna was going through, we can relate at some point
of time in our life too, either it could be a professional or personal and the
only solution is to know “Yourself”, that is the wisdom of “Self Knowledge”.
To understand that
self-knowledge is the only solution to overcome every problem, we have to
undergo the sequence of processes only then we would be able to connect to that
solution and Lord Krishna has given a very detailed explanation on the
processes that have to be experienced and realized.
There are four
steps that one has to go through to master the knowledge of self.
1.
Discovery of
problems of emotions and
realize the problem is with self and not to blame any other. And try to change
self rather than trying to change others or situations.
2.
Discovery of
helplessness. After putting all
human efforts to resolve the issues and still issue is not resolved this is
where you discover the helpless situation.
3.
Surrender to the
higher source of knowledge that is a
Guru or a teacher.
4.
Commitment towards
the teachings of Guru and understand the
knowledge of “Self”
Coming back to Arjuna’s situation, he
was going through all the above stages, He discovered his emotional problems
and wanted to quit the battlefield rather than going ahead with it and he also
discovered his helplessness and expressed to Lord Krishna seeking his guidance
on what he has to do at the situation and as an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna
he has a commitment towards his teachings and that’s the reason he has
surrendered himself to Lord Krishna to help him overcome the situation and show
him the right direction.
Lord Krishna waited until Arjuna was
totally exhausted with his suffering and surrendered completely because only
the best teacher knows when to give the ultimate knowledge to the right
student.
Arjuna’s emotional turmoil was the
preparation step to acquire the eligibility of the ultimate knowledge.
Lord Krishna’s approach of
Philosophical, Ethical and Practical to give the ultimate knowledge to Arjuna
will be discussed in the next post…
